Lab Test

Lab Test enables the recording of numerous laboratory test informational elements as organism, sensitivity, etc.

You may enter lab tests, print or email test results, manage samples that were gathered, produce invoices, and more with ERPNext Healthcare, which makes it possible to operate a clinical laboratory effectively. According to the instructions in Setting Up Laboratory, you can customize Lab Test Templates for each Test and its result format or build new ones.

Once you've set up each and every one of the required Lab Test Templates, you can begin making Lab Tests by choosing a Test Template each time you create a Test.

1. How to create a Lab Test

To create a Lab Test, go to:

Home > Healthcare > Laboratory > Lab Test > New Lab Test

  1. Configure the Name Series.
  2. The Lab Test Template should be chosen. The template will automatically fetch the Medical Department.
  3. Choosing the Patient. The patient information will be automatically obtained.
  4. The Lab Technician and the Requesting Practitioner are optional choices.
  5. Save.
  6. After saving, the lab test document will have all of the data that was configured in the template.
  7. The pre-configured data can be modified to meet your needs. If any, add your comments in the Comments area.

  8. You can enter the specifics of the results in the Lab Test document when they become available. For simple data collection, any presets, Normal Values, etc. established in the Lab Test Template are made available in the Lab Test.

For example, Grouped Test:

Descriptive Test:

Components that do not have Allow Blank checked will fail validation if submitted with a blank value.

2. Features

2.1 Create multiple Lab Tests

To create every lab test ordered or charged for a patient, utilize the "Create Multiple" option from the Lab Test list view. A sales invoice or patient encounter that has already been prepared can be used to generate additional lab tests.

Without having to open the encounter/sales invoice to seek up the orders, you can first choose the patient before selecting the encounter or invoice from which you need to pull the tests.

The tests that were recommended in the Patient Encounter's Investigations section would be ordered.

In the case of Sales Invoice, the items (Lab Test Template items) billed in the invoice will be pulled to create Lab Tests.

2.2 Automatic Sample Collection document creation

Sample collection documents will automatically be prepared when the lab test is created if the lab test template has sample collection set. Enable the Generate Sample Collection document for Lab Test option in Healthcare Settings and configure samples in the Lab Test Template to create sample collection documents for each lab test.

2.3 Automatic Lab Test creation on Sales Invoice submission

When any lab tests are billed, ERPNext Healthcare also enables the automatic generation of lab tests (via Sales Invoice). Enable the option to Create Lab Test(s) on Sales Invoice Submission under Healthcare Settings to configure this.

2.4 Organism Test Results

For descriptive laboratory tests, organisms are an optional entry. The organism, colony population, and colony UOM can all be chosen.

2.5 Sensitivity Results

If the template's sensitivity option is activated for descriptive lab tests, you can enter the sample's sensitivity results against specific antibiotics in the Sensitivity child table. In ERPNext, the masters for sensitivity and antibiotics are already set up. Depending on your requirements, you can extend or change them.

2.6 Format Test Result

For each test or event in your result, ERPNext also lets you format the results.

2.7 Laboratory SMS Alerts

With the Healthcare Settings, you may set up the messages to notify patients through SMS when their lab test results are ready. You must first configure SMS Settings for this.
