Capacity Planning
Capacity Planning
Using its resources and ongoing work orders, an organization uses capacity planning to decide whether or not to accept new orders.
Your account has capacity planning enabled by default; for more information, visit:
Home > Manufacturing > Settings > Manufacturing Settings
1. Prerequisites
It is suggested that you first create the following before making and using a Work Order:
- Bill Of Materials
- Operation
- Workstation
- Work Order
2. How Capacity Planning Works in ERPNext
To plan the incoming work orders, the user must specify the number of days in the "Capacity Planning For" section under manufacturing settings. For instance, if you kept the capacity planning for 30 days and it takes 5 days to create 1 finished good, the user can only accept 6 work orders at this time (30/5 = 6). If your Workstation becomes available, you can accept the following Work Order.
2.1 Create Work Order With Operations
For the system to track the Job Card timings against the Work Order, the user must establish Work Orders with Operations.
After the user accepts the work order, the system generates a job card containing the time data for the available workstations. The system schedules the job according to the timings set in the Workstation if "Allow Overtime" is disabled in the Manufacturing Configuration. The system only schedules jobs on working days if the option to "Allow Production on Holidays" is disabled.
2.2 Workstation's Production Capacity
The user can modify the "Production Capacity" in the workstation. The system will permit you to work on this many operations at this Workstation. For instance, enter 10 for the "Production Capacity" field if a particular Workstation can manage 10 activities concurrently.
2.3 Job Card With Timing
Based on the time needed to complete each operation and the availability of the Workstation, the system will automatically construct the Job Card with timing against each operation. The system estimates the anticipated end date based on the operation time after the user enters the planned start date.
2.4 Work Order Planned Start Date and End Date
Users can determine the capacity of their workstations based on the anticipated start and end dates. Also, they can use the Calendar to monitor the progress of the work order.
Go to: to view the calendar.
Work Order List > Calendar > Default
2.5 Capacity Planning Error
A capacity planning mistake is generated by the system if the Production Capacity days are fewer than the amount of time needed to perform the operation. In this scenario, the user must either decrease the quantity of finished goods in accordance with the capacity of the Workstations or raise the number of days under "Production Capacity" in the Manufacturing Settings.
