Inpatient Medication Order

The creation of an Inpatient Medication Order (IPMO) facilitates nursing tasks. When patients are admitted to the hospital, certain medications must be given to them on the scheduled basis. To prescribe drugs to the admitted patient, an inpatient medication order is made. This document contains details about the service unit, the medication, the dosage and dosage form, as well as the date and time the medication must be taken.

1. Prerequisites

You must first produce the following records before you can make an inpatient medication order:

  • Patient
  • Inpatient Record

2. How to Create an Inpatient Medication Order

There are two ways to create an inpatient medication order.

2.1 Manual creation

  1. Click New under the Inpatient Medication Order list view.
  2. Choosing the Patient. Only inpatients are available in this patient list because it has been filtered.
  3. Selecting a healthcare professional is an option.
  4. Set the order's start date. Starting on this date, a schedule for the recommended medications will be developed.
  5. There is a button to "Add Medication Orders" in the Medication Orders table. Press the button. The information of the prescription must be entered in a dialog box that appears.
  6. Choose the medication (item), dosage, timeframe, and dosage format. then select Add.
  7. The table is updated with thorough schedule entries for the order starting on the Start Date. End the conversation.
  8. Publish and save. Based on the length of the prescription, the Finish Date will be determined automatically.
  9. You can see the Total Orders and Completed Orders in the Other Details section.

2.2 IPMO from Patient Encounter

  1. You can find the option to create an inpatient medication order under Create > Inpatient Medication Order after generating a Patient Encounter for an inpatient with medications given in the Drug Prescription table.

  2. This button can be used to construct the IPMO. The creation of IPMO will include an enhanced view of the schedule. Publish and save.

2.3 Statuses

The total number of completed order entries determines the IPMO statuses. When an Inpatient Medication Entry is made against an order entry, the order entries are recognized as completed.

  • Draft: A draft has been saved but has not yet been uploaded to the database.

  • Pending: No orders have been entered into the Medication Orders table.

  • The Medication Orders table has some order entries that are complete.

  • Complete: Every entry for an order has been made in the Pharmaceutical Orders table.

  • Order for Inpatient Medication Cancelled: The order has been canceled.
