Change Custom Field Datatype After Field Creation

Once a custom field has been created and the form has been updated, it is not possible to modify the datatype directly. Let's look at an example to better understand how to resolve this problem.

Assume that we have changed the form and added a custom field called "Client" to some DocType with the datatype set to "Data".

However as it is stated below, we want to alter the field from Data to Link.

When we click on update after doing so, an error is thrown, as seen in the screenshot below.

Use the search bar to find Custom Field list to correct this. Find the field whose datatype you want to alter by searching.

Change the datatype by opening the record. Don't forget to include any more pertinent information. If we wish to switch the datatype in this example to "Link," we must fill out the "Options" box. Choose Save.

Return to Personalize Form now and verify the field. The new datatype needs to be used instead.
